16 wins for Booths at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards

Booths has won a total of 16 medals in 4 different categories at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards held in Nantwich.

The International Cheese and Dairy Awards recognises the best in the industry and independent food and drink retailer Booths has won 6 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze and 2 highly commended medals at the awards.

The 6 gold medal winners are the Wookey Hole Cheddar, Quincjes Extra Mature, Saint Agur, Treur Jersey Schorren, an organic 100% Jersey milk, as two creamy goat’s milk cheeses from Treur Mèkkerstee Fenugreek and Santa Gadea.

The gold medal winning cheeses:

·         Wookey Hole Cheddar with its earthy, unique flavour

·         Quicjes Extra Mature, this cheese has a complex of flavours, a good bite and a strong finish

·         Saint Agur, a 60 day aged double-cream blue cheese

·         Treur Jersey Schorren Organic cheese, made from 100% Jersey milk, matured for one year with an intense rich and creamy flavour

·         Treur Mèkkerstee Fenugreek, a creamy goat’s milk cheese, it has a slightly nutty flavour due to the addition of Fenugreek seeds

·         Santa Gadea Blue Goat Organic, a soft cheese with a gentle citrusy aroma

The silver medal winning cheeses:

·         Barbers 1833 vintage cheddar, matured for 24 months intensifies the complexity and depth of flavour of Barbers

·         Greenfield Crumbly Lancashire Quarter has a fresh, tangy flavour with a smooth texture

·         Yorkshire Fettle, a distinctively creamy cheese combining a soft, crumbly texture with a sweet piquant flavour

·         Snowdonia Black Bomber, an extra mature and intense vintage cheddar with a creamy texture

·         Mrs Kirkham’s smoked Lancashire cheese, cold smoked for two days over oak chips

The bronze medal winning cheeses:

·         Butlers Blacksticks Blue, a smooth, creamy cheese with delicate blue-veining, distinctive amber hue and subtle blue flavour

·         Montagnolo Affine, a triple crème soft cheese that is marbled with blue veins

·         Le Cret Gruyere Reserve Unpasteurised, this cheese has a complex flavour, fruity at first developing a nuttiness later

The two cheeses that won highly commended at the awards are:

·         Don Juan Manchego, a nine month old cheese with irregular holes, the complex flavour is rich with notes of Brazil nuts, caramel and a salty finish

·         Parmigiano 1/8 30 month matured wheels, cared for and matured in Peverazzi dairy founded in 1921
