Members of the public will get the chance to experience a unique, behind- the-scenes look inside one of Cumbria’s speciality coffee roasters next month.
Carvetii Coffee Roasters in Threlkeld will be opening up their Roastery for a stimulating Big Weekend of hands-on demonstrations, workshops, and copious amounts of coffee tasting.
Carvetii’s Roastery, which sits at the foot of Blencathra, is not normally open to the public, but over the weekend of the 24th and 25th November, people can find out more about how their coffee is roasted and follow the process from bean to cup.
The Big Weekend will kick off on Friday evening with a special invitation-only event for Carvetii’s supporters over the last seven years hosted by former Olympic gold medallist and world champion triple jumper, Jonathan Edwards CBE. Jonathan – a very keen home barista – will lead a Q&A session and officially christen Carvetii’s brand new 25kg roaster, which is set to increase production from their recently expanded Threlkeld base.
Over the course of the two days, people can take part in a number of taste challenges or try their (steady) hand at latte art. Demonstrations will range from coffee roasting and cupping to trying out the latest – brand new to the market – equipment, courtesy of leading Italian coffee machine importer, VA Machinery.
And it’s not all about coffee. For anyone who prefers a good old cup of tea, there will also be tea brewing and tasting sessions featuring Carvetii’s own range of teas.
Places on demonstrations will be limited and need to be pre-booked and all attendees will go home with a Carvetii goody bag featuring a branded KeepCup, freshly roasted coffee or tea, and a selection of other treats.
Carvetii co-owner and founder, Gareth Kemble, said: “We realise from our workshops at the Roastery that people love to discover more about what goes into making that perfect cup of coffee, so we’ve decided to open the doors and reveal all in what we hope will be a series of regular open days.
“The fact that Jonathan wanted to be involved will really get the Big Weekend off to a flying start. We can rely on him to entertain our customers as well as maybe showcasing one or two of his own rookie barista skills! He’s been a loyal supporter of Carvetii since we served him coffee at the Lakesman Triathlon a few years ago and, with a degree in Physics, he’s almost as geeky as me about the science behind it!”
Carvetii’s Big Weekend takes place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November from 10am-4pm. For more information or to book one of the demonstrations, visit https://www.carvetiicoffee.co.uk/collections/carvetii-big-weekend or call 01768 776979.
