Nowt Poncy win listing across all 28 Booths stores

Rossendale based sauce company, The Nowt Poncy® Food Company, have announced a listing in all 28 Booths stores for three of their sauces. Their Nowt Poncy® Tomato & Basil, Arrabbiata and L’Amore É Pizza Sauces will be available in Booths stores from April 2019.

Hand made in small batches to ensure consistency and quality of flavour, the sauces are made using fresh herbs and have a shelf life of 12 months, achieved without the use of nasty additives or preservatives.

Husband and wife team, Julian Abel & Karen Walker (pictured above), who co-founded the company in 2016 following a change in their respective careers, are over the moon with the decision.

Julian commented, “We are thrilled beyond words to have achieved our listing with Booths and we’re hoping to show the consumer that not all jarred cooking sauces are the same. Our sauces are legally low in sugar, fat and saturated fat and are lower in salt too. And as a bonus, they are all handmade in Lancashire”.

“Our Sugarwise.org verification is a huge step forward for us as we are way ahead of the Governments edicts for reduced sugar to help in the fight against childhood obesity and diabetes. We do use tiny amounts of salt and unrefined sugar, as our sauces are made from authentic recipes. Most of the sweetness comes from the tomatoes we use and the flavour comes from our high quality ingredients. After all, it’s cooking not rocket science.”

Operations Director, Karen said, “We’re delighted to have products that appeal to such a wide audience. Our listing came about after Julian attended and spoke at the Family Business Place Northern Conference in 2018. He met one of Booths senior managers who spoke passionately at the conference about how Booths love working with small family businesses just like ours.”

The forthcoming closure of the commercial kitchen space at Accrington and Rossendale College, which is where Nowt Poncy currently cook their sauces, means that they are on the lookout for a new facility or somewhere they can turn into a dedicated commercial kitchen space. Ideally, they are looking for a unit with room to create an additional kitchen space that other producers, looking to scale up, can rent.
