Bowness-on-Windermere restaurant Porto, has claimed the number one spot on restaurant review website, Restaurant Guru.
Restaurant Guru amasses information and visitor reviews from a number of sources including Michelin, Yelp, Google, and Facebook to give people up-to-date information on the best places to eat around the world.
Of the 80+ listed places to dine in Bowness-on-Windermere, Porto has reached the top spot thanks to the quality of the locally sourced food, friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere.
Currently the only independent restaurant in the bustling tourist town to hold an AA rosette for the quality of its cooking, Porto is owned by local restaurateur, Faye Ramsey who this year opened her second business, The Estuary in Grange-over-Sands.
Menus at Porto are created by Executive Chef, Slav Miskiewicz, who gets his inspiration from the quality of seasonal ingredients found in and around the Lake District – as well as what he grows organically in his own garden.
Originally from Poland, Slav comes from a foodie family – his mum is a cook, and both an aunt and uncle are pastry chefs – so it was no great surprise when he followed a career in catering. He moved to the UK in 2007, where he honed his skills working around the Lake District with renowned chef, Steven Doherty, before joining Porto to head up the kitchen in 2017.
On receiving Restaurant Guru’s top spot, Slav said: “It is always great to get positive feedback. It’s why we do what we do. And to be voted the number one restaurant in the town by the people who really matter – our customers – of course makes it extra special.”
After the opening success of The Estuary earlier this year, owner Faye is now investing further in Porto with new redecoration and furnishings, new statement crockery, and a refresh of the logo and website all planned this autumn.
Porto is open daily for lunches, dinner, and drinks and is now taking bookings for festive lunches and private Christmas parties.
