Shed loads going on for Cumbrian gin distillers

It has so far been a fantastic 2019 for Cumbria’s Shed 1 Distillery with the year showing no signs of slowing down or indeed petering out!

They are a finalist in the North West Rural Creative, Artisan or Crafts Business category of the Rural Business Awards. The aim of the awards is to recognise all businesses operating right across the rural sector.

Co-Founder Zoe (pictured above with husband Andy) is also a finalist in the Hospitality Industry Section of the Enterprise Vision Awards (EVA). The EVAs recognise women in business from across the North West and is the largest awards dedicated to female entrepreneurs outside London.

This year there are 31 Cumbrian businesswomen who’ve reached the finals, which is the largest number for any area in the north.

The business have also been collaborating with Stephen Hall of Bakes & Balls, with Free-From Frocolate Truffles and the Fancy Frolic Gin Truffles having been shortlisted for a Nourish Award.

There were 5 more Great Taste Awards, with Fancy Frolic, Festive Tipple, Chilli Fest, Cuckold’s Revenge Gin Jelly Marmalade & Shed Loads of Love Chocolates which joined Cuckold’s Revenge and Shed Loads of Love to the Shed 1 Great Taste family.

It has also recently been announced that they are one of the 100 small businesses to be part of Small Business Saturday. SBS UK highlights small businesses and encourages shopping local. As part of this initiative, each business is invited to the House of Lords. Shed 1’s big day out is September 18th and to celebrate they will be launching their Blackcurrant and Licorice Gin Elixir and offering a 10% discount to all online customers throughout the day.

Excitingly, having rapidly outgrown their current premises, their ‘new shed’ is expected be ready to open at the end of October. There’ll be opportunities to see the distilling process, take part in gin tastings, have gin afternoon teas and even a series of ‘Make Your Own Gin’ experiences, a first for Cumbria!

And finally, Andy and Zoe launched their second Meg-Gin Charity Raffle. This year they are supporting Ulverston Mind and Gorlin Syndrome Group. Raffle tickets can be purchased online and at a few outlets in Ulverston. The top prize is a Make Your Own Gin Experience for two, worth £200.
