Stockport pub reopens after £200k Robinsons refurb

The Royal Oak, situated in a prime location on the pleasant outskirts of Cheadle Village, Stockport, has reopened following a striking £200k renovation. 

The pub was purchased by Robinsons Brewery back in 1891, the Royal Oak has remained a fantastic community local for over a century but needed a substantial investment to bring it back to life. 

Tony Massey, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said, “With the evolution of the village centre shops and eating and drinking offers, we felt the time was right to revisit the Royal Oak and its opportunity to enhance the current offer in Cheadle. 

‘The Royal Oak now brings a point of difference to other bars and pubs in the area. The pub, which was a very traditional village boozer, has always been a really great community local in the heart of an up-and-coming area, and we are all very pleased with the new look.” 

Outside, the Royal Oak has been given a fresh new look. A beautiful planting scheme blossoms from newly-installed oak framed windows, creating an attractive focal point externally that complements the amazing transformation inside. Radiating comfort, the pub’s interior has been opened up significantly with the removal of some structural internal walls, creating a more welcoming and open plan pub, whilst still retaining the community feel. 

James Waddington, Managing Director of Inglenook Inns & Taverns, said, “With its recent extensive refurbishment, the Royal Oak has most definitely been ‘put back on the map’ – a position it undoubtedly deserves! It is a stylish and ‘on trend’ venue but with a traditional welcome, as customer service is one of our prime objectives. 
 
‘Pieminister is our menu of choice – along with patties served hot with spicy ketchup – perfect with a pint, complemented by a selection of nibbles and lite bites. We are very proud to be associated with this ‘Local’s Local’”. 

The pub now boasts a striking new bar, offering an exclusive new drink range inclusive of a selection of handcrafted ales and craft lagers, complemented by a wide range of over 20 gins, a raft of rums and a superb wine selection to quench the thirst of even the most discerning drinker. 

The pub also serves delicious food daily, such as hearty pub classics, scrumptious Pieminister pies and an array of tasty sandwiches, as well as appetising bar nibbles which feature olives and award-winning pork scratchings. 

Two smaller, cosier areas now branch off the main seating area, creating more snug spaces for those who would rather be tucked away from the bar. A newly formed beer garden is set out at the rear, with plenty of seating, planting and decorative atmospheric lighting used to create a welcoming, usable space – come rain or shine as there is a covered area for winter months or the good old British summer time! 

Robinsons’ Design Team commented, “We wanted to give the pub a new lease of life, bring in new customs and open it up to the wider community, without excluding some of our most valued customers. A double-sided fire place is one of the first features the customers will see when entering the pub, however the industrial pipe detailed bar is the main focal point of the space. 

‘A large, main trading area with a mixture of poseur height and dining height seating along with a row of booth seating, means that there are plenty of seating options available – be it a social drinking group or a quick coffee catch up with friends.”
