Trafford Council has given the go-ahead to McGoff Group to deliver its Market 41 food hall in Urmston, paving the way for construction work to begin.
The development was granted outline planning consent and Trafford Council planners have now given the scheme full approval which will allow McGoff to start on site.
FDMB North West understands that there will be around 10 to 12 food and drink operators positioned around a 180-cover seating area, akin to the successful Altrincham Market and Mackie Mayor model. In total the market will cover 13,600 sq ft.
Designed by architect Street Design Partnership, the project is centred on a new-build food market with indoor and outdoor children’s play areas, private dining, a mezzanine level with additional seating, and a space for pop-up stalls and events. There will also be a co-working space with free Wifi.
WMC Retail Partners, working alongside Northern Restaurant & Bar Show chief executive Thom Hetherington, was confirmed as the market’s operator in January this year.
Now that planning permission has been secured, work can start on site, although this is behind the original schedule set out earlier this year, which was aiming for the project to begin in the summer, and open in early 2019.
The site was acquired by the McGoff Group in August 2017, and the company is currently building three five-bedroom houses alongside the market.
